Is it for me?

The certificate aims to train staff from a number of vocations to deal with the media in their day to day responsibilities. It has successfully prepared many students for events management and project management, and aided in improving communication skills. At the heart of this course is the concept of Professional Development. The foundation of the course is that the modules and assignments are focused on understanding and developing professional media based skills to make you a more creative and productive worker.

What does it involve?

Research shows that companies across the country have all kinds of staff - secretaries, administrators, personal assistants and junior managers who are increasingly dealing with various aspects of the media. They may be responsible for organising new company stationery designs, arranging press coverage of events, updating the web site or a host of other jobs. Most of them have had no formal training and have picked up the skills as they have gone along.

The Certificate in Professional Studies is aimed at those people. We offer a range of training modules to help you carry out all those media-related tasks more effectively. You can learn at your desk using specially developed online materials and you will get the support of a personal tutor who can offer online advice.

What will I be able to do when I've finished the course?

You will have the 'Certificate in Professional Studies in Media' worth 120 academic credits, this is equivalent to one semester in year one of a BA (Hons) course. When you have completed the course, the skills you will have developed will depend upon your choice of option modules. But the overarching aspect of the course is to enhance personal development in relation to media production, events and creativity.

What are the entry requirements?

  • GCSE D-G
  • Foundation GNVQ/GCSE in vocational subjects DD-GG
  • NVQ Level 1 qualification

Students will take three 12 credit modules and one 24 credit module.
